Math
Course Description
Students need a spiral notebook where they will be writing math notes, examples, and daily math work. Students need to work out every problem that is assigned in their math notebook or attach a sheet of paper showing their work. Any math work that isn't completed in class needs to be completed for homework and turned in on time.
When solving for a word problem students need to follow the Problem Solving Steps:
Problem Solving Steps
1. Understand the Problem- Read the problem and identify the question. What does it ask you to find? (Students can highlight or underline the question)
2. Plan what to do- Decide what information is needed. Is there any information that you don't need? Decide how you can use the information to solve the problem. What strategies can you use?
- Draw a Picture or Diagram
- Make a List, Chart, or Table
- Guess and Check
- Find a Pattern
- Work Backwards
- Write an Equation
- Choose a Correct Operation
3. Solve the problem- Use the information given to solve the problem. Show your work to explain how you solved the problem.
4. Review your answer- Does your answer make sense? Is it reasonable? If not, go back to try to find the error you made.
**Students are encouraged to find more than one way to solve a problem and be able to explain their thinking process.
