The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City
murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing
tradition of displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of intolerance towards the
use of drugs. The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified
and visible commitment towards a DRUG-FREE AMERICA.

October is also Safe Schools Month and it is Bully Prevention Month as
well. Many schools tie Red Ribbon Week in with Bully Prevention, too. At

La Campaña de Listón Rojo se inició cuando los narcotraficantes en la
Ciudad de México asesinaron al agente de la DEA Kiki Camarena en 1985. Esto
comenzó la tradición continua de mostrar listones rojos como símbolo de
intolerancia al uso de drogas. La misión de la Campaña de Listón Rojo es
presentar un compromiso unificado y visible hacia un América Libre de Drogas.
Octubre es el Mes de Las Escuelas Seguras y también es el Mes de la
Prevención del Acoso. Además, muchas escuelas vinculan la Semana del Listón
Rojo con la Prevención del Bully. En South Ranchito, la Semana del Listón Rojo
es una semana en la que nos enfocamos en hábitos saludables, elecciones
saludables y prometemos ser libres de drogas.
